Welcome to Chihuahua, Chihuahua!

Chihuahua City is the large and prosperous capital of the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua. Overlooked in the tourist scene in the past, Chihuahau is a city with an authentic Mexican feel, a friendly atmosphere, and great historical significance. Famous for norteno food (similar to Tex-Mex), Chihuahua’s delicious cuisine makes liberal use of beef, cheese, and chiles. The city’s colonial center is filled with historic churches, buildings, mansions, and museums, including  one dedicated to Pancho Villa, a major folk hero in the north. Surrounding Chihuahua City are a number of areas of outstanding natural features, including the Grutas de Nombre de Dios, a huge system of caves with impressive stalactites, stalagmites, and other rock formations. Chihuahua City is also host to the eastern terminus of the Copper Canyon train which takes visitors through the scenic canyon that rivals the Grand Canyon in depth. Surrounded by ranches, Chihuahua is a popular place to experience traditional ranchero (cowboy) culture at events like rodeos and bullfighting.
